Free Breakfast Sandwich at Subway Today!

Participating Subway locations in MN and WI will be giving away free breakfast sandwiches today until 11am.  I'd recommend calling your local Subway, because when there have been giveaways like this in the past, my local franchises did not participate.  But I called mine this morning and was pleasantly surprised to hear that they ARE participating this time!  Yay for free breakfast!!
Update: The girls and I went and got our free sandwiches!  Choose from egg and cheese, sausage egg and cheese, bacon egg and cheese, ham egg and cheese, or western egg and cheese (with onions and peppers).

Weekly Groceries and April Total

I stayed under budget this week!  That was my goal, since I was over budget a couple of times this month.  I only did double coupon day at Roundy's, so this week I spent $44.55 and saved $72.32, or 62%.  That makes my April grocery total $218.85, an average of $54.71 a week.

These items were free:  Yoplait Delights x2 and 8th Continent Soymilk x2.

These items were $1 or less:  Mott's applesauce x2, Mott's apple juice, hot dogs, hot dog buns, broccoli, salad, Mission tortillas, Mission chips x1 (the rest were only $1.25 each after peelies!), Fruit Chillers x4 (raincheck), McCormick cinnamon, Star Olive Oil x2, Kraft mac and cheese x4, pasta sauce and Barilla pasta.

I bought blueberry pie filling and strawberry and raspberry jello to try to make some Rhubarb Berry Jam that Staci told me about.   I also got italian sausage, pancake mix x4, apples, bananas, ice cream, and 2 gallons of milk.

How did you do this week?  Did you use a lot of the coupon book coupons?

Free Pretzel at Pretzelmaker/Pretzel Time on 4/26

Pretzel Time and Pretzelmaker locations will be giving away a free soft pretzel (salt or no-salt) to customers on April 26th! They would like you to sing a snippet of a song for your free snack, but you can also choose to just mention National Pretzel Day and still get the freebie. It might make for an interesting wait in line, if people ahead of you are brave enough to sing!  :-)  Find a participating location here, and get more details here

New Roundy's Coupon Book

I received a heads-up email from Roundy's that there will be a new coupon book out this Sunday in newspapers, good from April 25 through May 8.  There will be savings on things like Mott's juice, Sara Lee bread, Roundy's water, Barilla pasta, and more.  Their covers look the same (except for the name on top), but apparently PNS/Copps customers can save $30 and Rainbow customers can save $29.  I wonder what coupon is missing in the Rainbow one?  Hopefully there will be some manufacturer coupons that we can match up with these store coupons to really maximize our savings!  So be on the lookout in your newspaper on Sunday, and don't miss your booklet of coupons!

Printer Refills $1-- 4/22 Only!

I totally meant to post this earlier and forgot!  In honor of Earth Day today, Walgreens has printer cartridge refills for only $1!  You can use this printable coupon or the coupon from Sunday's Walgreens ad (which is also probably available in stores--it usually is).  Refills are available for Dell, HP, Lexmark, Okidata, Primera, Sharp, and Xerox cartridges.  I have three cartridges ready to be refilled, so you know I'm making a trip over now! Just think of how many coupons I'll be able to print with those three cartridges!  :-)

Oops, sorry! In the title I accidentally put 5/22--I'm getting ahead of myself!  It's actually 4/22, today only!

Weekly Groceries

With this week being "super doubles", I thought I would only do 2 transactions and double 20 coupons, but I did 4 transactions and doubled 39 coupons!  I still managed to stay on budget with my Roundy's trip, spending $49.53 and saving $192.32, or 74%.

These items were free or better than free (overage):  6 boxes of General Mills cereal, 6 pouches of Betty Crocker potatoes, Manwich x2, eggs, Dawn, a CFL lightbulb, 7up 2-liters x2, Muir Glen large can of tomatoes, and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (which I'll submit for the Land O Lakes rebate and get a coupon for FREE Land O Lakes butter!)

These items were $1 or less:  Ortega Salsa x2, Taco Bell Salsa, PastaRoni x6, bananas, string cheese x14 (perfect for snacks and picnics, and good until October!), Special K Granola x2, Puffs x2, Pillsbury Cookie Dough, Plain Yoplait (to make homemade yogurt with some of that milk!), Crystal Farms cheese x2, Fruit Chillers x11.

I also bought lettuce, 3 lbs of ground beef, 4 gallons of milk, and 4 big jars of natural applesauce.

So I did well at Roundy's, but I went over my weekly budget of $55 because I spent $19.01 at Aldi, making my total for the week $68.54.  At Aldi I bought 2 gallons of milk, bananas, broccoli, strawberries, macaroni and cheese x6, chili beans x2, whip cream, tortillas x6, and some cake mix and frosting.

My total for the month is $185.28, but if I take off the diapers and vitamins that I counted in my groceries the past couple of weeks, it makes my overall total for the month $164.28, an average of $54.76 a week.  (That makes me feel a little better.)

Giveaway Winner

Thanks to those of you who left comments for my Seventh Generation giveaway!  It seems a lot of you use vinegar and baking soda for most things, but Clorox (or other) wipes are very popular, too. It is important to us to get rid of those germs, but also important not to harm our children, so this was a popular giveaway.

I have chosen the winner with Random.org and it is #7, Angela, from A Day in the Life of the Robinsons!  Angela, you have until tomorrow night (April 22nd) to email me to claim your prize, or I will have to choose a new winner.  Thanks again, everyone!

Seventh Generation Review and Giveaway!

MyBlogSpark and Seventh Generation gave me the opportunity to review some of their products. The timing was good, because not only is April "Earth Month", but at the beginning of April our house got hit with the stomach flu AGAIN. I had just received this product kit in the mail the previous day, so I was able to try them out right away!

Since we knew they were made with botanical extracts, we thought they probably weren't able to disinfect, but they are! It says they kill 99.99% of germs botanically. I started with the Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner. To disinfect, it said to wet the surface and leave for 10 minutes, allowing to air dry. As long as it isn't on a food surface, there is no need to wipe or rinse. I went crazy spraying just about everything, in between throwing in loads of laundry. I like how the spray bottle sprays a nice even mist, but I wasn't fond of the smell of the cleaner. It wasn't horrible, but it smelled weird to me. When my husband came into the room, however, he was not so keen on the smell--and considering he had just finished cleaning up tons of throw-up, the smell of it was almost too much for him to handle. Because I had already sprayed it all over the place, I had to go around with Oust to try to help the smell a little. Other than that, I was happy with it, and I'm just sure to use it when he isn't home.

Next was cleaning the bathrooms with the Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner. This one smelled much better to me (though you could tell the scents were similar--both lemongrass and thyme--for some reason this one smelled better to me), but I wasn't as fond of the spraying mechanism. Again, according to the directions, to disinfect you spray the surface, leave for 10 minutes, and allow to air dry with no rinsing or wiping. Well this one sprays out kind of foamy, and not in a fine mist but more in a directed spray, so I couldn't get good coverage without wiping it around. Time to break out the paper towels! We are used to buying Viva, so I knew these wouldn't be able to compare the same way. But they aren't too bad, and they do hold up to some small wiping jobs. They are obviously not as thick or soft as Viva, but I can fold them over and wet them down without them immediately tearing. I used the paper towels to wipe around with the bathroom cleaner, then let it sit for 10 minutes. There was still a little foam in the bottom of the sink, so I still felt the need to rinse. But it did seem clean.

I also used the Disinfecting Wipes. These were probably my favorite of all. The smell was fine and they were strong enough wipes to do the job. I cleaned doorknobs and bathroom handles and around the kitchen sink and counters. I even tried sticking one on the bottom of my Swiffer WetJet (because I ran out of pads), and it held up just fine--no rips! I don't know how good a job it did on the floor (it's not the right size and not really meant for the swiffer, obviously), but it was nice not to have to get on my knees when I'm so pregnant!

Enough about me, now it's your turn! One of my U.S. readers will win the above pack of Seventh Generation products to try for themselves! This giveaway will close on Tuesday, April 20th at midnight and I will select one winner using Random.org. The prize pack will be mailed to the winner directly from Seventh Generation and MyBlogSpark. Here are the methods of entry, for up to 5 entries per person:

1. Leave a comment. What products do you use to clean your home, and what do or don't you like about them?

2. Subscribe via email or RSS reader. Then leave a separate comment that you are a subscriber.

3. Follow my blog with Google Friend Connect. Look for the lovely pictures of others on the right side of my blog, add yours, and then leave a separate comment.

4. Grab my button. Put my button on your blog and leave a comment with your blog's address for another entry! You can find the code to cut and paste on my right sidebar.

5. Blog about this giveaway. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog and leave a comment with the address to your blog's entry.

*I was given the above package from MyBlogSpark and Seventh Generation to give an honest review, and my opinions are my own.

Huggies Reset and More Coupons

Just in case you don't have enough diapers yet, the $3/1 Huggies coupon has been reset on Coupons.com! This is a high-value coupon that can get good quality diapers for a low price when combined with a sale (of which there are many!). There are other good coupons I noticed while on Coupons.com:

$1/1 Welch's juice

$1/1 8th Continent Soy Milk (often on sale for $2.50 or less)

$1/1 Tazo tea

$1/1 Caribou coffee
$0.40/1 Betty Crocker potatoes (when doubled, get $0.20 potatoes)

$1/1 GE compact flourescent light bulb

Weekly Groceries--A Much Better Week!

I kept myself to only one store this week, which always helps my bottom line! If I go shopping the loss leaders at other stores I always end up spending more. I guess sticking with what is simple is sometimes best. Over 4 transactions I spent a total of $39.94 and saved $92.41, a savings of 70%. Now that's more like it! :-)

These items were free or better than free (overage): Yo-Plus and Fiber One yogurt x8, Ronzoni x 7, Tree Top apple juice 3-pks x4, Pace salsa (won in sweeps), Vitamin D milk, and Uncrustables.

These items were $1 or less: V8 Fusion x2, Life cereal x3, and Quaker Oatmeal x2.

I also bought ricotta cheese x2, cheese slices x3, eggs, 2 more gallons of milk, chicken nuggets, Mission chips, 2 packs of Huggies Overnites, bananas, strawberries x2, and romaine lettuce. I wouldn't normally count the Huggies in my grocery budget, but I did use them as fillers to get up to $25 which is why I counted them. But if I subtracted the cost of the diapers ($5.49 each after coupons, a good price), then my grocery total for the week would be only $28.96!

Don't Forget to Search Today

Just a reminder that today is Mega Swagbucks Day! Be sure to go to your swagbucks page and do a few searches today. It'll only take a few minutes and you might win big! After you've won some swagbucks, go back to the home page and click through the special offers. That will only take a minute and you will usually get between 2-4 swagbucks. Doesn't sound like much, but they all add up!

If you haven't started winning with swagbucks yet, I'd encourage you to sign up and get started so you can earn free gift cards for something you're already doing, too (searching the web). You'll get 30 free swagbucks just for signing up. My favorite prize is the $5 Amazon gift cards which are the best value. I save them up and buy when I can get free shipping (orders over $25). There's still plenty of time to start saving them for Christmas gifts!

Another Huggies Coupon!

My goodness! The $3/1 Huggies coupons have been awesome lately! And with our baby coming, the timing couldn't be better! :-)

If you haven't already, you should be able to print a $3/1 here, another $3/1 here, and print another NEW $3/1 here! Remember to use your browser’s back button to print each one twice. Jumbos are on sale at both Roundy's and Kroger this week (Roundy's being the best deal at $8.49), and will be on sale for $8.99 next week at Walgreens. $5.99 or less is my "buy price" for jumbo packs of name-brand diapers like Huggies, and these $3 coupons are getting me there!

Have you found other places to use these coupons to get great deals?

Piano Recital

H and G had a piano recital last week. It was H's second performance and G's first. H has been taking lessons for almost 2 school years and G has only had 3 formal lessons, although H started teaching her in January, so she had a head-start. :-) They were both very excited, did 2 songs each, and did a great job! Here are the movies of their songs (if you can't see the movies, click through to my blog):
