Review and Giveaway: Money Saving Mom's Book!

I received an early copy of the book The Money Saving Mom's Budget by Crystal Paine. I have subscribed to Crystal's blog, moneysavingmom.com, since before I started my blog several years ago, so I really wanted to read her first book!

Crystal is a young mom who is committed to living without debt and teaching others how to do the same. Her blog is practical and has encouraged countless numbers of people to learn how to live on less and give more. I am one of those people! :-)

Her book starts by talking about why you need to organize your home and life in order to save time and money. She walks you through setting reachable goals, determining priorities, making a budget for both your time and your money, and getting rid of clutter. The rest of the book is filled with practical ways you can save even more. And if you think it is all about coupons, you'd be wrong! There are lots of ways to "slash your spending, pay down your debt, streamline your life, and save thousands a year" (the tagline from her book!)

The Money Saving Mom's Budget is a very easy read. Throughout the book there are very short testimonials and ideas from many other people who have implemented some of these tips or have saved or earned money in a creative way. Even though I have been reading Crystal's blog for several years, there were some new things that stood out to me that I need to implement. I really think there is something for everyone in this book because of all the golden nuggets of wisdom woven throughout!

You can pre-order your copy of The Money Saving Mom's Budget and it will be sent out to you as soon as it releases in January. Christmas gift idea, anyone? ;-) And one other thing, Crystal is donating ALL the proceeds from her book sales to Compassion International. Isn't that great?!?

Sparkle Farms Review and Giveaway

I have 5 girls who love to wear dresses. I've never really understood the point of a "slip" under a dress for little girls (unless the dress is see-through or something) because it doesn't help with modesty, or keeping the underwear covered. The trend of wearing leggings under dresses helps, but what about in the summer when it is hot?

I went on the lookout for modesty shorts or biker shorts or anything that wouldn't be bulky under their dresses, but would keep things "private" when little girls are playing and are not as concerned with keeping their dresses down. I scoured the internet and second-hand stores for biker shorts for girls, but the options I found were usually pretty ugly--like orange or black or wild patterns--nothing that would look nice under a pretty dress.

I first heard about Sparkle Farms Bloomers from my sister-in-law, who had a pair for her daughter. They are just what I was looking for, with a little bit of girly "bling", these 3 sparkle stones on the left leg. Cute!

They fit perfectly, not adding any bulk, and do a great job of keeping underwear private while maintaining comfort. We call them modesty shorts, and remind the girls that if people can see their modesty shorts, that means they are not being modest. Therefore it is hard to get an action picture of them with the bloomers actually showing, but here's my best shot--see them peeking out while G got her shoes on? :-)

Currently the Sparkle Farms Bloomers are available in sizes 3-7 in lilac, pink, and white. A set of 3, along with the two tote bags shown, is $25, or you can buy them individually. I asked Sharry if they would be expanding their sizes since my oldest is 8, and she said they are! In the fall she is adding sizes 7/8 and 10/12 in brown, navy, and black, the "private school" colors.

Sharry is offering 20% off your order of $25 or more with the code MOMFORHIM.

Big G Review and Giveaway!

The recommended daily amount of whole grains is 48 grams. Are you getting enough? It seems everyone is trying to eat healthier, but we still want our foods to taste good. Big G cereals are trying to make it easy to incorporate whole grains into our diet, without sacrificing taste. There are lots of tips for living a whole grain lifestyle at WholeGrainNation.

MyBlogSpark and Big G sent me a prize pack to help make healthy living more fun. My package included a free coupon for new Cinnamon Burst Cheerios. Our home always has plain Cheerios and at least one other flavor of Cheerios at any given time, as we love eating them for breakfast as well as snacks, so we were excited to try this new flavor!

Let me tell you, it literally lasted for 24 hours at our house! It was so good, with a touch of sweet cinnamon taste, and not too overpowering. It even has more dietary fiber than plain Cheerios, which surprised me. We will definitely be buying it again (in fact we already did--I loaded up last week during the Roundy's sale!).

Would you like to win a prize pack of your own? MyBlogSpark and Big G will send one MomForHim reader a healthy living prize pack, including a coupon for a free box of Big G cereal, a lunch bag, a water bottle, carrier, and pedometer, a digital jump rope, and an insulated on-the-go breakfast bowl. You have seven chances to enter! The first one is required because I need to be able to contact you if you win. Be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry. If you are reading this in email, you need to click through to my blog to leave comments as your entries.

1. Leave a comment with your email. What is your favorite cereal? (Feel free to leave your email in a format like myname at gmail dot com.)

Wildtree Review and Giveaway

I had heard of Wildtree products before but never tried them, so when Amanda offered to have me do a review and giveaway for my blog, I was intrigued. It was really interesting to find out that the founder of the company had kids with dietary restrictions, and she just wanted to be able to make dinner quickly and easily from a mix--but she wanted them to be nutritious, delicious, unprocessed, and easy to prepare. There was nothing like this, so she started making her own. People started asking for her mixes, and lo and behold, Wildtree was born!

It was really hard to choose a product from their catalog, as they all look really good. But you know how much I love pumpkin, so I decided on the Pumpkin Pancake mix. Pancakes are a Saturday tradition at our house and I love adding purees to our mix, so this was a nice fit for our family. They were easy to prepare and turned out beautifully! They were light and fluffy and absolutely delicious. I only wish I had taken a picture before they all disappeared, because there were no leftovers! :-)

Would you like to try some? Amanda has generously offered to send a box of Pumpkin Pancake mix to a reader of my blog. You have SEVEN chances to win!
The first one is required because I need to be able to contact you if you win. Be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry. If you are reading this in email, you need to click through to my blog to leave comments as your entries--replying to me or emailing me does not count as an entry.

1. Leave a comment with your email. Visit Wildtree and look around. What product would you like to try? (Feel free to leave your email in a format like myname at gmail dot com.)

2. Subscribe via email or RSS reader. Leave a separate comment that you are a subscriber.

3. Follow my blog with Google Friend Connect. Look for the lovely pictures of others on the right side of my blog, add yours, and then leave a separate comment.

4. Follow me on Twitter (@MomForHim) and tweet this giveaway with a link to this page. Then leave a comment with your tweet!

5. Post this giveaway on Facebook with a link to this page so your friends can enter too! Then leave a comment saying you did so!

7. Blog about this giveaway. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog and leave a comment with the address directly to your blog's entry.

This giveaway will close on Tuesday, December 14th at midnight and I will select one winner using Random.org. The prize will be shipped by Amanda and Wildtree.

Amanda will ship the prize to the winner. I received a box of Pumpkin Pancake mix in order to offer an unbiased review. It really was delicious! :-)

Crayola Winner

The winner of my Crayola giveaway was Adina, who offered the tip of using recycled materials for crafts. Congratulations! You will receive a back to school gift pack from Crayola and MyBlogSpark. Thanks to everyone who entered!

Oh, and by the way, remember how I mentioned that Ted said I should "just write an app" to count comments? Well, he whipped one right up. We tried it out on this giveaway and it worked! Thanks, dear! ;-)

Seventh Generation Winner

Thank you to everyone who entered my Seventh Generation giveaway from MyBlogSpark. There were 153 entries! I need to figure out a new comment system that numbers the comments, because I had to count all the way up to 87 to find the winner! I mentioned this problem to my husband and he responded, "that's easy, just write an app." Yeah, easy. Right. Congratulations, Lisa S., you will be getting a prize pack from Seventh Generation like the one pictured above!

Thanks to all of you who left ideas. The general consensus was that washing hands frequently, using sanitizer or hand wipes, and giving your kids vitamins were ways that you kept the germs from coming home. Most suggestions for the home included keeping on top of clutter and all the papers that come home and preparing as many things ahead of time as possible. Cleaning one room a day was another popular suggestion--very FlyLady-like! :-)

Crayola Back To School Giveaway

It's back to school shopping time! Does anyone else get excited about that, or is it the teacher in me? Who can resist brand new crayons and markers and freshly sharpened pencils? Or maybe it's the frugalista in me, because there are always so many great back-to-school deals!

To celebrate going back to school, I was given the opportunity to review some new Crayola products through MyBlogSpark, and we're going to do a giveaway as well! They sent me a package of new markers, crayons, and colored pencils. H and G excitedly tried them out for me!

G drew the new markers with black barrels. Black is the new green, did you hear? Crayola has started making the barrels of their markers black so they can use more recycled bottle caps, making them more "green"! The new black barrels keeps tons of recycled plastic out of the landfills each year. Go Crayola!

Crayola has also gone "green" with their colored pencils and crayons. Their colored pencils are made from reforested wood, and their crayons are made with solar power. They have over 26,000 solar panels that provide the energy to make more than 1 billion crayons every year, a third of their annual crayon production. Hopefully initiatives like this will help keep our neighborhoods looking beautiful like H's picture for years to come. :-)

Want to win a gift pack like this for yourself? You have an opportunity to enter this giveaway up to 5 times! For your first entry, I'd like to hear about how you are teaching your kids to help the environment.

1. Leave a comment WITH YOUR EMAIL. How do you teach your kids about helping the environment? If I don't have your email, I can't contact you as the winner!

2. Subscribe via email or RSS reader. Then leave a separate comment that you are a subscriber.

5. Blog about this giveaway. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog and leave a comment with the address directly to your blog's entry.

Another Seventh Generation Giveaway!

To celebrate going back to school, I got another opportunity to review some Seventh Generation products through MyBlogSpark, and we're going to do another giveaway as well!

Going off to school can also mean bringing home germs. My kids don't "go" to school, but they do manage to bring home germs because although we homeschool, we do many things away from home as well.

Seventh Generation and MyBlogSpark provided me with the following "back-to-school" kit, with 2 canisters of wipes, one for home and one for school. Since our schoolroom is our living room/playroom, I have been using the wipes to clean everything up as we prepare for school.
On another note, Ted recently did some research and found out that when you throw in a load of laundry, you WILL have e. coli on your hands! Ewww!! I always wash my hands after throwing in laundry (they just feel dirty anyway), but I wasn't always washing out my laundry baskets after every load (only occasionally). Now, after putting the clothes in the washing machine, I put the laundry basket by the dryer and ALWAYS spray it with the Seventh Generation Disinfecting spray and let it air dry while the clothes wash. It kills 99.99% of germs botanically, including e. coli. That makes me feel a lot better! As with my last review of Seventh Generation, Ted still isn't big on the smell. It doesn't bother me, so I just use the products while he is at work. :-)

So how do you keep your household clean and neat through the school year? There are always so many papers coming home (or even in the mail!), so how do you keep on top of them and keep them from turning into giant piles? I seriously want to know, because I have a hard time with this! And what do you do to keep your home and kids healthy? I definitely don't want a repeat of last spring's flu outbreak!

Want to win a gift pack like this for yourself? You have an opportunity to enter this giveaway up to 6 times!

1 AND 2. Leave a comment WITH YOUR EMAIL. Share a tip for keeping your house neat and clean during the school year, or anytime, really! Share a separate comment about how you keep your kids healthy during the school year. How do you keep them from picking up every little germ and bringing it home? If I don't have your email, I can't contact you as the winner!

3. Subscribe via email or RSS reader. Then leave a separate comment that you are a subscriber.

4. Follow my blog with Google Friend Connect. Look for the lovely pictures of others on the right side of my blog, add yours, and then leave a separate comment.

5. Grab my button. Put my button on your blog and leave a comment with your blog's address for another entry! You can find the code to cut and paste on my right sidebar.

6. Blog about this giveaway. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog and leave a comment with the address directly to your blog's entry.

This giveaway will close on Friday, August 20th at midnight and I will select one winner using Random.org. The prize pack will be mailed to the winner directly from Seventh Generation and MyBlogSpark.

Seventh Generation is providing this gift pack and giveaway through MyBlogSpark. I also received a gift pack for my review. All opinions are my own.

Simply Go-Gurt Freebie and Giveaway!

MyBlogSpark and Yoplait gave me the opportunity to review their new Simply Go-Gurt.  Since we go through a LOT of yogurt in our house, this was right up our alley!

We buy a lot of yogurt, but we usually get the little cups and not the tubes.  So when I can get a good deal on the "tube yogurt", the girls just love it!  There's something about being able to squeeze the yogurt right into your mouth, and not have to use a spoon!  :-)  It's also fun to freeze them and try them that way.
MyBlogSpark and Yoplait would like to give one of my readers a Simply Go-Gurt gift pack, the same one I received!  It has a travel sized Etch-A-Sketch, a coupon for a package of FREE Simply Go-Gurt, an organizer for you, and a seat-back organizer for the kids.  It attaches to the back of a seat and then folds down for activities in the car.  Very fun!

Here are the methods of entry, for up to 5 entries per person:

1. Leave a comment. Because I like new ideas...Leave a comment with what you serve your kids for lunch, beyond the usual PB&J or Mac and Cheese.  If your profile doesn't list your email, be sure to leave it in your comment so I can contact you if you win!

2. Subscribe via email or RSS reader. Then leave a separate comment that you are a subscriber.

3. Follow my blog with Google Friend Connect. Look for the lovely pictures of others on the right side of my blog, add yours, and then leave a separate comment.

4. Grab my button. Put my button on your blog and leave a comment with your blog's address for another entry! You can find the code to cut and paste on my right sidebar.

5. Blog about this giveaway. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog and leave a comment with the address directly to your blog's entry.

This giveaway will close on Tuesday, May 11th at midnight and I will select one winner using Random.org. The prize pack will be mailed to the winner directly from Yoplait and MyBlogSpark.

In addition, Yoplait will mail coupons for a FREE pack of Simply Go-Gurt to the first 30 people who click on the "Try It Free" tab that will go live tomorrow (5/6) on my blog at 8am CST.  So be sure to check back tomorrow at 8am sharp, because 30 coupons will likely go fast!

*This coupon offer for free Simply...Go-Gurt is NOT valid in some states, including CA, ID, LA, MN, NJ, NV, ND and TN.  Sorry!

*MyBlogSpark and Yoplait generously provided me with the above giveaway pack so that I could offer a review.  All opinions are my own.

Giveaway Winner

Thanks to those of you who left comments for my Seventh Generation giveaway!  It seems a lot of you use vinegar and baking soda for most things, but Clorox (or other) wipes are very popular, too. It is important to us to get rid of those germs, but also important not to harm our children, so this was a popular giveaway.

I have chosen the winner with Random.org and it is #7, Angela, from A Day in the Life of the Robinsons!  Angela, you have until tomorrow night (April 22nd) to email me to claim your prize, or I will have to choose a new winner.  Thanks again, everyone!
