Weekly Groceries for 2 Weeks

This week was a good week, especially for cereal and milk! I did the cereal deal twice, and did a total of four transactions. I spent $35.31 for 53 items, with a savings of $93.52. I was counting on having a low week after stocking up so much in November!

Cereal Deal #1: Honey Nut Cheerios x2, Total x2, Banana Nut Cheerios x2 = $22.54 - $10 register savings - $11 coupons = $1.54 + milk ($1.98) - $3.25 catalina = $0.27 for 6 boxes of cereal and 1 gallon of milk!

Cereal Deal #2: Cheerios x2, Chex x2, Multigrain Cheerios, Cocoa Puffs = $19.36 - $10 register savings - $7.20 coupons = $2.16 + milk ($1.98) - $3.25 catalina = $0.89 for 6 boxes of cereal and 1 gallon of milk!
These items were free: 2 Fiber One Yogurt (I had one $1 coupon and one BOGO coupon), Tree Top juice boxes x4.

These items were $1 or less: Success Rice, Aunt Jemima Pancakes x4, Red food coloring, Gravy mixes x4, Country Crock, eggs, butter, bread x5, brown sugar x2, sugar, pudding x2, Nestle chocolate chips x2, cereal x12 and milk x2 (these could practically go in the free pile, though!).

Last week was my last day of stocking up before our company arrived for Thanksgiving. I didn't take a picture because I was literally down to the minute with last minute cleaning and prep while my husband picked up some of our guests from the airport. I did 5 transactions and spent $79.88 (ouch!) on 70 items. I saved $105.93. Not my best week, obviously, but we did have 14 for Thanksgiving.

These items were free: Dole fruit x2, Taco seasoning x3, Peppermint extract, Parkay x2, Muir Glen organic diced tomatoes.

These items were $1 or less: Taco seasoning x4, Air Wick mini x2, Green Giant vegetables x6, eggs x4, cream of chicken and mushroom soups x8, Hungry Jack pancake mix, Freschetta Pizza x2, White Shells x2, 2 veggie dips, Wishbone dressing.

I also bought LOTS of fresh produce, milk x4, brats x2, Tostitos x3, sliced cheese x3, and 2 pies.

That's it for me. Now tell me about you! Did you do the cereal deal this week? Has your shopping bill been going down? Please leave me a comment because I love to know that I'm helping someone!

Hi,
I'm planning on doing the cereal deal next week (our ad is a week behind yours). Have anyone ever tried stacking the general mills cereal deal in one transaction? I was wondering if I bought 12 boxes of chex in one transaction + other items to get me to $25, would it take off $10 for EACH set of 6 boxes AND would I get TWO milk coupons?

Thanks,
Kari

Hi-

First time commenting... been reading for a few weeks...

Question: Where do you grocery shop?

I live in Utah, so most of the amazing deals you pull off cannot be done here since we have no stores that double coupons... but Wal-Mart near my house is SUPER coupon friendly and will price match without a problem...

Thanks!
Laura

I'm in Ohio and don't have the double coupon offers avalible either. I have still been able to cut my grocery bill from 200-250 a week to around 100 a week. Dec. 1 I posted my last shopping trip. hattahall.blogspot.com

Kari-
My thought would be why would you do them in one transaction when you wouldn't be able to double all your coupons that way? You will get a much better deal if you can double all or most of your coupons, but to do that you would need to do 2 transactions.

Buying only 6 boxes brings you up to about $20, so just throw in a couple other items that are on sale or that you need to bring you to $25, then your cereal coupons can all double (even though the $10 will come off automatically, your coupons will still double). Then do it again with the next transaction so that all THOSE coupons can double, too. You could even put a couple of milks in the second transaction and use the milk catalina from the 1st.

I think what is confusing you is the $10. Even though the $10 comes off of the $25, your coupons will still double. I've done it many times. I don't know why it works, but it does. See the breakdown of my transactions above. With each transaction, I just added some produce and bread to bring me up to about $26. Then the $10 comes off so my total is about $16, then my coupons all doubled bringing the totals down to between $7.50 and $8.50 each, and I still got the $3.25 catalinas for each transaction, which I turned around and used on the other two transactions. If I can clarify further, let me know! :-)

Laura-
I'm sorry, but this store doesn't operate in Utah. You've gotta find out the policies of all the grocery stores in your area to see who has the best prices or promotions. Frequently it is the "higher-end" grocery stores (the ones people consider to be more expensive) that run great promotions like double coupons. Combine their promotions with their loss leaders each week and you can save a lot of money--frequently more than Walmart or a warehouse club like Sam's or Costco. It's all about how you shop--shopping for the sale items and stocking up, like buying enough chicken to last a month when it is on sale, so you don't have to buy it until it goes on sale again. Make sense?
