Walgreens Coupon Policy

I was glad to find out that Walgreens has posted their official coupon policy online. I was just telling someone this week that my local Walgreens is not very couponer-friendly, so you'd better believe I printed off a copy of their policy and added it to my coupon bag! This policy also clearly states the rules of using Register Rewards and store coupons, as well as stating that internet-printed coupons are accepted.

This policy should rectify some of the problems I've come across at Walgreens:

  • When there is a buy one, get one free promotion, up to two coupons can be used, as long as the total doesn't become negative. (Previously I've only been allowed to use one coupon since the other item rang up as free.)
  • A coupon that exceeds the amount of a sale item can be adjusted down. (Previously the coupon was often refused.)
If you are a teacher or homeschooler, remember that Walgreens is offering a discount on Wednesdays until September 15th! Check with your store to see if they are participating.

CSN Stores Pre-Review

I've been given the opportunity to do a review for CSN Stores. They have over 200 online stores and they carry just about everything you could imagine! From Noritake dinnerware and Le Creuset Cookware, to toys and games from Melissa & Doug, Step2, LeapFrog and more, to tools and furniture, to stuff for pets, to. . . well, you get the idea! I'm going to get busy trying to narrow down my choices, so keep your eyes peeled for my upcoming review post!

Educator Discount at Walgreens

The Walgreens stores in my area are offering a discount to teachers (and homeschoolers!) on Wednesdays through September 15th. Get a 15% discount on everything, and a 20% discount on Walgreens brand items (it rings through as the employee discount). You have to show proof of being a teacher or homeschooler (I showed the form I filed with the state for the 2009-2010 school year). This may be a regional promotion, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks so much to Karen for telling me about this--I was able to get some great deals yesterday!

Seventh Generation Winner

Thank you to everyone who entered my Seventh Generation giveaway from MyBlogSpark. There were 153 entries! I need to figure out a new comment system that numbers the comments, because I had to count all the way up to 87 to find the winner! I mentioned this problem to my husband and he responded, "that's easy, just write an app." Yeah, easy. Right. Congratulations, Lisa S., you will be getting a prize pack from Seventh Generation like the one pictured above!

Thanks to all of you who left ideas. The general consensus was that washing hands frequently, using sanitizer or hand wipes, and giving your kids vitamins were ways that you kept the germs from coming home. Most suggestions for the home included keeping on top of clutter and all the papers that come home and preparing as many things ahead of time as possible. Cleaning one room a day was another popular suggestion--very FlyLady-like! :-)

Crayola Back To School Giveaway

It's back to school shopping time! Does anyone else get excited about that, or is it the teacher in me? Who can resist brand new crayons and markers and freshly sharpened pencils? Or maybe it's the frugalista in me, because there are always so many great back-to-school deals!

To celebrate going back to school, I was given the opportunity to review some new Crayola products through MyBlogSpark, and we're going to do a giveaway as well! They sent me a package of new markers, crayons, and colored pencils. H and G excitedly tried them out for me!

G drew the new markers with black barrels. Black is the new green, did you hear? Crayola has started making the barrels of their markers black so they can use more recycled bottle caps, making them more "green"! The new black barrels keeps tons of recycled plastic out of the landfills each year. Go Crayola!

Crayola has also gone "green" with their colored pencils and crayons. Their colored pencils are made from reforested wood, and their crayons are made with solar power. They have over 26,000 solar panels that provide the energy to make more than 1 billion crayons every year, a third of their annual crayon production. Hopefully initiatives like this will help keep our neighborhoods looking beautiful like H's picture for years to come. :-)

Want to win a gift pack like this for yourself? You have an opportunity to enter this giveaway up to 5 times! For your first entry, I'd like to hear about how you are teaching your kids to help the environment.

1. Leave a comment WITH YOUR EMAIL. How do you teach your kids about helping the environment? If I don't have your email, I can't contact you as the winner!

2. Subscribe via email or RSS reader. Then leave a separate comment that you are a subscriber.

3. Follow my blog with Google Friend Connect. Look for the lovely pictures of others on the right side of my blog, add yours, and then leave a separate comment.

4. Grab my button. Put my button on your blog and leave a comment with your blog's address for another entry! You can find the code to cut and paste on my right sidebar.

5. Blog about this giveaway. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog and leave a comment with the address directly to your blog's entry.

This giveaway will close on Saturday, August 28th at midnight and I will select one winner using Random.org. The prize pack will be mailed to the winner directly from Crayola and and MyBlogSpark.

Crayola provided this gift pack, information, and giveaway through MyBlogSpark. All opinions are my own.

Infantino Review and a Giveaway

Today I'll be reviewing the Flip baby carrier and the Firefly Soother from Infantino
as part of my participation as a Mom Central Infantino Test Drive Mom. :-)

I was excited to get the Firefly Soother because we don't have a baby mobile. The Firefly Soother is designed to look like a Firefly jar, with bugs that move and light up inside. It's very cute! It seemed a little bulky at first, but once I put it on the side of the crib it's not too cumbersome and hangs very securely with the buckle strap and ties. And the bulkiness of it makes it sturdy for a stand-up nightlight for older children on a nightstand, so it's nice that it is versatile like that--it can grow with your child or be used with an older child. My older kids also enjoy watching the cute little fireflies and listening to the different types of music, 2 soothing lullaby songs and a nature sound.

One thing I really like about the Firefly Soother is the ability to control so much. You can pick your own mix of music, lights and motion, with settings of mute, soft, and loud on the music, and choose from 3 music themes. You can have only the music on, only the lights on, only the lights and motion on, or the music, lights and motion on. I've mostly been using it with just the music on. Once you have your settings set on the top, there is a green button on the front that can be used to easily turn it on and off, and each cycle runs for 15 minutes. Because of the controls, you could also just use it as a nightlight. Here is a video of baby J in her crib with the Firefly Soother. Notice how it is secured on the crib rail, the controls on top, and the movement and lights. Click through to my blog to see the video.

The Infantino Flip baby carrier is designed to hold babies 8 to 32 pounds. It can be used in three positions, facing in, facing out, and on your back. I've been using it facing in with baby J right now, since she doesn't have full neck control yet. Even though baby J is long (97 %ile!), the carrier is tall enough to keep her head and neck protected. The Flip baby carrier is stylish and not bulky, and the straps are padded. I haven't used it for long periods of time, but so far have been pretty happy with it. The padded straps and lumbar support distribute baby's weight and help prevent back and neck pain, at least for me. I tried it out with baby J on front (3 months, about 13 pounds) and F on my back (2 years old, about 24 pounds). J fell asleep while snuggled in close, but F didn't want to stay in it. She is a busy 2 year old, after all, and would rather walk (or should I say RUN)!

Want to win something?
Visit the Infantino Facebook page to enter for your chance to win one of five
Fold & Go Bouncy Seats through September 1st. I REALLY like our Fold & Go Bouncy Seat--we use it every day! And because it folds up so flat, we were able to take it on our visit to the in-laws this summer, even though the minivan was packed (having 5 kids will do that to a minivan)! You can read my review here.

From today through Saturday, August 21 - you can get 25% off Twist & Fold Activity Gym (vintage style) at Target with the code TGTINFNT. We also use the Twist & Fold Gym every day! I usually leave it out, but it takes me less than a minute to fold it up and put it away when company comes over. You can read that review here.

I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for Infantino and have received various Infantino products as part of my participation. All opinions are my own.

Mmm...Pudding

The following is a guest post from my wonderful husband, Ted, the father of our 5 beautiful girls!

Hi, I'm Ted, and I'm the husband of a couponer. When I was a bachelor, I did not eat well. I ate cheap. Breakfast was cereal or eggs. Dinner was on-sale frozen pizza, nachos, spaghetti, and brats wrapped in a piece of toast, mixed vegetables, and broccoli. Admittedly, lots of sodium and I'm sure a good proportion of mystery meat that I willinging pretended that it wouldn't matter. Recently I was introduced to the term "belly fill", for firefighters and such who need dense, calorie-rich food to sustain them through potentially long stretches between meals. I wasn't a firefighter, or even very active, but I was a grad student then post-doc, and stress can cause you to burn lots of calories too. The mixed veggies and broccoli arguably were the only healthy things I ate, but fortunately I loved them. I think they provided the much needed detox to my system from the onslaught of bachelor food.

The point is, I was cheap. I'm not embarrased to admit it. I bought the most calories to get me through the next day I could for the least amount of money. I traded nutritional diversity for convenience, with a few good choices, and lots of bad choices. But, except for the occasional store-brand on-sale cookie or oatmeal cream pie, I didn't buy that many sweets. A couple of small cookies to give me a quick fix, but anymore would have been wasteful -- because I hated going shopping, so that was another reason to not make my portions too big!

So, yesterday, after mowing the lawn, I treated myself to a small snack pudding that my wife often finds good deals on. Mmm... pudding. I would never have bought this for myself. I would probably never have found it on sale enough for me to buy it for myself. But, Jessica gets an incredible amount of food to feed our family, with much better nutritional content, for not too much more than I paid for myself as a bachelor. Through the coupons, deal-finding, and judicious stockpiling, our whole family can enjoy occassional creature comforts like pudding.

I am very grateful my wife is a couponer. She has tested and tweaked her approach and found what works for her. And I'm very happy to say, as I enjoy my snack pudding, that it works for me, too. Yum!

From Jessica: Stockpiling and saving money with coupons allows us to afford simple luxuries, like snack pudding. I know my husband likes it, so I make room in our budget for it. :-)

Dora is turning 10! I remember when Dora first came out. I didn't have kids yet, but I was a preschool teacher and thought it was a great educational show. Another Seventh Generation Giveaway!

To celebrate going back to school, I got another opportunity to review some Seventh Generation products through MyBlogSpark, and we're going to do another giveaway as well!

Going off to school can also mean bringing home germs. My kids don't "go" to school, but they do manage to bring home germs because although we homeschool, we do many things away from home as well.

Seventh Generation and MyBlogSpark provided me with the following "back-to-school" kit, with 2 canisters of wipes, one for home and one for school. Since our schoolroom is our living room/playroom, I have been using the wipes to clean everything up as we prepare for school.
On another note, Ted recently did some research and found out that when you throw in a load of laundry, you WILL have e. coli on your hands! Ewww!! I always wash my hands after throwing in laundry (they just feel dirty anyway), but I wasn't always washing out my laundry baskets after every load (only occasionally). Now, after putting the clothes in the washing machine, I put the laundry basket by the dryer and ALWAYS spray it with the Seventh Generation Disinfecting spray and let it air dry while the clothes wash. It kills 99.99% of germs botanically, including e. coli. That makes me feel a lot better! As with my last review of Seventh Generation, Ted still isn't big on the smell. It doesn't bother me, so I just use the products while he is at work. :-)

So how do you keep your household clean and neat through the school year? There are always so many papers coming home (or even in the mail!), so how do you keep on top of them and keep them from turning into giant piles? I seriously want to know, because I have a hard time with this! And what do you do to keep your home and kids healthy? I definitely don't want a repeat of last spring's flu outbreak!
